Special Award Winners Announced
Congratulations to to all the NENY PGA Special Award recepients! The Awards Program is based on an individual professional’s performance from the previous season.
Our Special Award Winners will be announced in front of their peers at the Spring Meeting taking place at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy, NY, at our scheduled meeting date of April 18th. Each award is based on individual criteria as well as the professional’s contibutions to the betterment of the section and association.
Golf Professional of the Year: Scott Warren, PGA Head Professional, Pinehaven Country Club, Guilderland, NY. This is the highest honor paid to PGA Professionals in recognition of a member’s overall performance and contributions as a golf professional to his/her facility and level of service to the section and Association.
Scott's career with the PGA spans over 22 years and he has worked for Pinehaven Country Club since 1999. He was named the 2009 he has served numerous positions on the NENY PGA Section Executive Committee, including currently holding the seat of Honorary President.

Assistant Professional of the Year Matt Daley, PGA Assistant Professional at Mohawk Golf Club, Schenectady, NY. Matt was elected to PGA membership in 2009.

Teacher of the Year Kent Tarkleson, PGA Director of Golf/Instruction at Tark's Indoor Golf Club, Saratoga Springs, NY. Kent opened his own indoor instruction golf club in April of 2009.

Horton Smith Trophy Tom Oppedisano, PGA Head Professional at McGregor Links Country Club, Malta, NY. This award recognizes a professional’s outstanding contributions to developing and improving education opportunities for all professionals.

Bill Strausbaugh Award Scott Warren, PGA Head Professional at Pinehaven Country Club, Guilderland, NY. Scott has been recognized for his contributions within the section for his leadership and community relations efforts specific to this award.

Junior Golf Leader Ron Choquette, PGA Life Retired at Burden Lake Country Club, Averill Park, NY. Ron is heavily involved with the NENY PGA Junior Golf Association & Junior Tour offered by the section as well as the junior instruction program at Burden Lake CC.

Roland Stafford Award Tom Sullivan, PGA Head Professional at Wyantenuck Country Club, Great Barrington, MA. This award is in name sake of a past member in recognition of the charicteristic traits of integrity, honesty and sportsmanship synonimous with a PGA Professional.

President’s Plaque Award Noel Gebauer, General Manager at Town of Colonie Golf Course in Schenectady, NY. Noel qualified for this award due to his overall positive impact at his facility on growth of the game inititatives and support of both section and national Play Golf America player development programs.

Merchandiser of the Year: This award was designed to pay recognition to the professionals who has demonstrated superior skills as merchandisers in the promotion of golf and his/her facility golf shop operation.

Sales Representative of the Year: Mike Perreault, Callaway Golf Sales Representative. Mike started his career with Arnold Palmer Golf Company and joined Callaway Golf in 2003 when they bought Top Flite/Ben Hogan brands. His quality of service, professionalism, and overall support of section programs and professionals has earned him this honor.
