NENY PGA Pre-Apprentice Eligibility/Classification:

(forms at bottom)

Is one of your assistants eligible for the section’s Pre Apprentice Classification?
The Pre-Apprentice program was developed in 2004 in order to help aspiring assistant golf professionals become affiliated with the NENY PGA and take part in select member and tournament programs as well as become familiar and educated with the PGA PGM Program and requirements.  To be eligible for this status an individual must;
·        Be eligible employed at a NENY PGA facility
·        Be registered for and attempt to take at least one Playing Ability Test (PAT) in the current year of employment
·        Have paid the $150 Pre Apprentice membership section fee
·        Attend a section orientation workshop/Assistant’s Association Spring Meeting

If a Pre-Apprentice does NOT meet the requirements, he/she will NOT be permitted to play in section events (including the ever popular Pro Assistant Pro).
The orientation workshop/Assistants Spring Meeting (for 2011 will be at Mohawk GC on Thursday, April 28) is a requirement of eligibility that the Apprentice Committee and Board of Directors feels will help inform and educate potential PGA Apprentices about section programs and the PGA/PGM Program. Please check the NENY PGA Section website for posted information on the Assistant’s Association Spring Meeting.

Please note that the Pre-Apprentice membership status is designed for eligibility for one calendar year. At the conclusion of the calendar year, if the assistants has not either passed the PAT, or become a registered apprentice via the PGA’s calculated formula in the PGA/PGM program the assistant can elect to request an extension (by completing the required form) from the Apprentice Committee and Board of Directors for one additional year. If the extension is not granted, the individual will not be eligible to participate in the NENY PGA events until the assistant has registered in the PGA/PGM program. The section developed this program to offer assistants a reasonable amount of time to determine if his/her career goals were to in fact progress and become a PGA member and participate and benefit in NENY PGA Section programs.
